Opera at the Circo Massimo from 16th July to 13th August 2020
Great news for the summer season of the Rome Opera House (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma) with a stage designed for the vast space of the Circus Maximus: a new Rigoletto with the direction of Daniele Gatti and the direction of Damiano Michieletto designed in an anti-Covid-19 key, two gala with the star Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, a new ballet on the music of Le quattro stagionidi Vivaldi with the choreography of Giuliano Peparini and the Corps de Ballet who will observe the distancing, The Barber of Seville and The Merry Widow in the form of a concert with international performers directed by Stefano Montanari.
The first barber in Seville on 22 July will be reserved for all healthcare workers who worked on the front lines to combat the Covid-19 epidemic.
“We have identified in the Circus Maximus the ideal, emblematic space for realizing the summer season of the Theater – explained the superintendent of the Rome Opera House Carlo Fuortes – In everyone’s imagination it is a place of celebration and celebration, among the largest places of entertainment ever made by man. It makes it possible to create a thousand-seat audience, but above all a 1,500-square-meter stage that will allow us to comply with safety standards for the public and for artists. And for the first time the Circus Maximus will host twenty-one evenings of opera, ballet, concerts and gala with stars of the caliber of Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov. It will be an opportunity to attend productions that will be truly colossal. An opportunity not to be missed for all the Romans and for tourists who, I hope, will return to admire our city ».
