Capitoline Museums

The oldest public museum in the world, founded in 1471 by Sixtus IV with the donation to the Roman people of the large Lateran bronzes, is divided into two buildings that, together with the Palazzo Senatorio, delimit the Piazza del Campidoglio, the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo.  

Breaking news: Extension confirmed for the exhibition “The time of Caravaggio – masterpieces from the collection of Roberto Longhi”

On display the famous Boy Bitten by a Green Lizard by Caravaggio and over forty paintings by artists who in the seventeenth century were influenced to varying degrees by his figurative revolution. Extended until January 10, 2021.
